Thankful and Grateful

We are so grateful to be in our new house. We had an open house last weekend where we were able to share the house with new neighbors, friends, and colleagues who have heard about our adventures in building. So now we want to share a detailed walk-through in pictures with all of you friends and family who are far away.

Starting upstairs - Rand and Seth's Bedroom
Boys picked the color. They wanted their beds as bunkbeds now so there is room for legos and books.

 Rhianna's Room
She picked her bedspread first, then the paint color. She gets the walk-in closet, but all the kids have built-in cubbies for clothes.

 Maren's Yellow Room
I picked the color but now she really loves yellow! She is still in the crib but sometime soon will move to a big girl bed.
Hallway to all the kids' rooms
Top of the stairs - Study area
Hall closet for linens and storage
 Family Room
This is a fantastic room! The views out the windows are almost entirely of trees. The colors came together beautifully. We have a great sectional and some super comfy swivel/rocking chairs to watch TV & movies. Along the other wall we have many books and then games and art supplies and blankets are in the cupboards and drawers. We are going to love this room!

Bathrooms - We did 2 upstairs - boys and girls. The girls has a tub for Maren. They have tiles that I really love from the same family. The girls' has a darker brown tile with an accent strip so we did a natural/clear stain on the maple vanity. The boys' is the lighter gray tile so we painted their vanity to go with the accent tile.

Now downstairs - Powder room near the front door
Red vanity from Ikea - Those of you that know our Tucson house know we loved our shiny blue kitchen cabinets. So this time we went with red for the vanity.
Front entrance - We like this door with the wood and frosted glass. The light is from Ikea and the rug is a mixture of Flor tiles. Can you tell we like having color in our house?
The view from the front door looking towards the kitchen and hallway to our master bedroom.
Office - Steve picked the paint color in this room. And lots of built-in shelves for books.
 Master Bedroom
Master bathroom - We have a walk-in shower. These are Kimona Silk tiles that look like a fabric. Most of the bathroom is 2 shades of gray. The tiles guys were great and then just cut strips of other colors of the tile to make the accent.

The toilet is in a separate room. Steve really wanted a cabinet like this - where the plunger and cleaner are hidden but there is lots of TP storage.
Master Closets - We had them do built-in dressers for us as well as other shelving.

The vanity is floating with flat panel doors and little finger pulls. We also chose all square sinks for the house. Many of the lights are LEDs including all the bathrooms. Others we change to LED when they burn out.

Coming from the garage door - mudroom and pantry hallway
This has worked out great! Each of us has a cubby for our shoes, a place for backpacks and jackets. The cupboards have pull out shelves that are slowly getting stocked...
Laundry room - The big cupboard is to store brooms, mops, and vacuums.

Most of the cabinets are shaker style and painted gray. The island has flat panel doors that are stained. We really tried to think through what drawers and cupboards we would need. All the counters are quartz that looks like carera marble. The sink is one big gray rectangle sink by Blanco and super deep to hide dishes! The stove is an induction cooktop. I really like the backsplash - it is mainly ceramic subway tile in 2 colors with one stripe of blue glass tile. All of our main floors are concrete with integrated color.
This is a small charging station next to the microwave and more pantry space.

 Living Room & Dining Room
We really like the stone and the floating shelves. There is no fireplace but we like the look and wanted shelves for stockings at Christmas. We also like our new huge dining table. Throughout our house we picked different ceiling fans that we liked. The dining room fixture is one you can design on LampsPlus. We also knew we needed a huge rug for this room, so we picked 3 tones of Flor tiles that ended up being a good compliment to our backsplash tile.

 Grandma and Grandpa Boivie's House
If you see our house from the outside, we have a butterfly roof that angles into the middle. The higher 2+ story part is our part of the house. The smaller 1+ story part is Grandma & Grandpa's part. We each have our own entrance from the outside and then we also can get to eachother through the garage.

Living room

This shows their front door (actually on a sidewalk around the back). This is why I say 1+ story - the peach wall goes up to 10ft. But then the ceiling follows the angle of the roof and goes higher. The windows up high let in a lot of light. Most of their house is oak wood floors with carpet in the master and tile in the bathrooms.
 Powder bath
 Master Bedroom

They picked mainly different cream colors for their rooms with just the peach accent wall and then this light turquoise stripe in their bedroom. The picture above their bed is an enlarged copy of a painting Carol did.
Master bathroom - Prepped to be ADA compliant and easy to use as they age. There are grab bars in the shower and by the toilets. There is a cutout under the sink and it is an open shower in case they ever need a wheelchair or walker.

Lots of cabinet space. They are still getting the glass put in the cabinet doors to show Carol's china. We had them do shaker style doors like we have. But throughout the house they got to pick everything else - the paint colors, pulls, tile, counters, appliances, fixtures, floors etc.

Closet in 2nd bedroom with lots of food storage.
 2nd Bedroom - Carol's office/sewing/painting room
3 separate stalls. We made sure we had extra space on the sides and up front for bikes, lawn mowers, garbage, storage etc. The garage door openers are super quiet. We also had the garage insulated and then our builder always paints and trims out the garage - the fanciest garage we have ever had!

And a virtual taste of the snacks we had out for the open house....

We are so grateful to have this beautiful home that we designed, but we are even more grateful for all of our friends and family that we love so much. We hope you are enjoying this holiday wherever you are. Happy Thanksgiving!
