And the Award Goes to....

Steve was presented with the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award for his department tonight. When they announced the award they said he had received twice as many nominations as anyone else. And he has really enjoyed teaching his classes. He has made some changes to the cases he has the students read to try and find the most interesting and best examples. He tries to email the students with summaries of what they have been talking about and also with updates on their grades. And now he has said he just feels more comfortable with teaching...being able to discuss the cases and lecture at times but also add in his personality and humor.

I actually knew about the award ahead of time from some of the other faculty. But not knowing the University too well I didn't really know what the award was. Steve got a letter that included some of the nice comments from his students. They also presented him with a plaque that he will put up in his office at the U of A. And in addition he will get $1000. What a great bonus! Bravo Steve!

Congrats Steve. To me that's a big deal since I had many professors that were good teachers but also some who didn't really care at all about the teaching part of their job. So if you can do good research AND be a great teacher than you really are a wonderful professor. Great job!

Good news is happening everywhere isn't it? ;) Good job! I knew this was the begining to a very good week. You got your award and we finally got the job we wanted. We should all get together and have ice cream to celebrate ;)
